Dickens on Main 2026: Boerne's holiday kickoff, by the numbers

By Phyllis Domingo, REALTOR® · San Antonio Relocation Specialist · 5 min read

Boerne's Dickens on Main has drawn around 57,000 visitors in past years, admission is free, and the 2026 edition runs Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28, on the Hill Country Mile. Here is the honest guide to planning around it.

The number that sets the scene

Dickens on Main is Boerne's holiday kickoff, and the number that frames it comes from the coverage it gets every year: past events have drawn around 57,000 visitors over the two days, per MySA's guide. Admission is free, and in recent years Main Street (100 N. Main St.) has closed to traffic from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. both days, per the event FAQ.

In 2026 it runs Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28, the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, per the official Celebrate the Holidays in Boerne site. In 2025 the event ran noon to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; expect a similar rhythm, and confirm final hours on the official site when they post them.

What a Dickens weekend actually feels like

The day is a small-town holiday bazaar on a historic main street: live music and street performers, visits with Santa, free children's crafts, holiday shopping, food trucks and a Christmas market, ice-carving shows and battles, and artificial snow drifting over Main Street after dark, per holidaysinboerne.com.

It launches a season the town calls 'A Dickens Celebration', with themed holiday weekends running through December.

Then comes the Weihnachts Parade

A week later, the town does it again. The Weihnachts Parade, Boerne's Christmas night parade, always runs the first Saturday of December, and in 2026 that is Saturday, December 5, at 6 p.m., the parade's 39th year, per the City of Boerne. The parade has historically featured up to roughly 100 lighted floats, bands, and marchers.

It is part of Weihnachts Weekend, which in 2026 also brings the Wassail Walk and a caroling contest along the Hill Country Mile on the evening of Friday, December 4, per the official site.

Plan the weekend like a local

None of this is complicated, but it is worth planning around, because a Dickens on Main Saturday is the busiest the Hill Country Mile gets all year. A few local habits help:

  • Arrive early: the streets close at 3 p.m. both days, and parking in the surrounding lots fills fast on Saturday.
  • Dress for evening: the parade and the snow run after dark, and Hill Country nights in late November are cold.
  • Come hungry and eat at the food trucks and market stalls rather than lining up at one restaurant, since the whole town is busy.
  • If you are visiting from out of town, book lodging months ahead; Boerne's rooms go quickly for these weekends.
  • Bring the kids for the crafts and Santa, and grandparents will want a chair: there is a lot of standing.

Why this matters if you are relocating

Event weekends like this are the fastest education in small-town life. You see the local shops, the volunteer energy, the packed streets, and the reason families say Boerne feels like home within a year.

If that scene appeals to you, it is also a sign about where to look: many relocating families end up choosing a neighborhood close enough to walk to Main Street, and I can show you those homes and the ones a short drive out, with the real numbers for both.

Come see it, then come see it again

The honest advice: come for Dickens on Main once as a visitor, and if you love it, come back on an ordinary Saturday to see the town without the crowd. Both versions matter when you are choosing where to live.

When you are ready, I can help you compare Boerne's neighborhoods, schools, and commutes with zero pressure. Call or text me at 210-744-5478, or use the contact page.
